H.O.G.W.A.R.T.S. Homeschool

Our school name used to be what we always pray to be–Happy Hearts Homeschool. We have dealt with severe attitudes over the years, but they get better every day. 🙂 Once the boys got a little older, they “outgrew” the name. Now we’re using H.O.G.W.A.R.T.S Homeschool. At first, we came up with Heritage of Grace Homeschool, but I didn’t like that the initials were “H.O.G.” When we became late fans of Harry Potter, and then Fantastic Beasts, I thought of Hogwarts! Each of the virtues are important for us to instill in our boys.
Thankfulness, &

Our school verse is Colossians 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

Currently, the boys are in 10th, 8th, 6th, and 3rd. We use an eclectic mix of curriculum, but our core is Christian Light Education (CLE).

Language Arts

Christian Light Education – all years.

Christian Light Education – all years.

For Math, we have tried SO many things! We tried and liked CLE’s Math, but the boys were behind and needed extra catch up time, plus extra handwriting (even with numbers) was really hard for them. We currently use (and LOVE) CTC Math (you can see my review of it here). It is PERFECT for us. With one price, all of the boys are covered, through any grade they need to learn. There is a teacher speaking on videos and animated illustrations.

We also love Life of Fred, but I was unsure what they were really learning, so we supplement with that now.  On one day a week, I also incorporate Math Mammoth.

Social Studies

Christian Light Education – all years (but we only use the textbooks after year 4,  unless they have the Sunrise Edition).

Christian Light Education – up to 2nd grade, until they come out with the Sunrise Edition.
Apologia’s Young Explorers Series (we don’t use the notebooking journals)
Answers in Genesis’ God’s Design for Life
Science in the Beginning by Jay Wile
For Science, the CLE 3rd grade (and above) was much too dry and slow for us. We prefer to use Apologia’s Young Explorers Series. For the first one, we used the notebooking journals, but didn’t care for them too much, and sold the rest. This is a personal preference, so honestly, each family should try this out before deciding to use it or not. We really try not to force handwriting because it tends to end in tears. (And don’t get me started on Handwriting without Tears curriculum, because we’ve tried that too. ;))

Notgrass – starting in 4th grade.

Jeremiah has had an interest in piano for years, but we haven’t been able to afford a class. Recently, when online classes were on sale, we purchased a great piano class for him.

Josiah has an interest in creating his own video game, so we recently purchased an online class to help him do this.

I plan to add to this as we continue our homeschool journey. Things will be added, updated, edited as the years go by.

If you’re a homeschooler, I’d love to hear your homeschool choices!

God bless,
